48 Hours in Marrakech's Medina: Overwhelming or Unforgettable?

What is Marrakech really like in 2026? Is 48 hours in the Medina an overwhelming sensory overload or an unforgettable city break? I first visited Marrakech 20 years ago and returned to find out if I would recognise the city I remembered. Joining me is my father-in-law, Grumpy Greg, on his very first trip to Morocco. We explore the famous Jemaa el Fnaa, wander the maze-like souks, enjoy a sneaky rooftop beer, sample incredible Moroccan food on a local food tour, try a mixed sandwich, prickly pear and harira soup, and visit the famous Chez Lamine for a traditional lamb tanjia. We also eat at Zeitoun Cafe overlooking Jemaa el Fnaa, where I try camel tanjia while Greg opts for a chicken tagine. As a seasoned reseller who regularly visits Yorkshire car boot markets, Greg puts his negotiation skills to the test in the souks as he haggles for a t-shirt, brass plate, bag and teapot. We also stop for mint tea at 1112 Marrakech and stay at Riad Marraplace in the heart of the Medina, including a room tour and breakfast on the rooftop terrace.
