Have you ever felt fine until you started praying, only to suddenly yawn and feel heavy eyelids the moment you make the sign of the cross? Why is it that you stay awake for a long time while looking at your phone or videos, yet your mind becomes clouded within minutes of reciting the Rosary or opening the Bible? You should not assume that every yawn during prayer is a spiritual attack. Lack of sleep, stress, medications you are taking, your health condition, late prayer times, and poor posture can all be significant causes. However, if the same thing happens every time you pray, and you end up giving up on prayer because of the drowsiness, you need to honestly examine your lifestyle habits and spiritual state. In this video, we calmly discern the reasons why yawning and drowsiness occur during prayer based on the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Word of the Bible. We explore why Jesus warned the disciples who fell asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane to stay awake and pray, how to distinguish between physical fatigue and spiritual lethargy, and why constant visual stimulation makes silence and prayer difficult. We also explain why you should not judge specific spiritual phenomena based solely on physical reactions such as tears, deep breathing, and yawning. The standard of true prayer is not momentary feelings, but the fruit of life that appears after prayer. You must examine whether love and peace, patience and gentleness, forgiveness and self-control are growing. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is not revealed as a miraculous experience, but within a transformed life. If you find yourself constantly drowsy during prayer, do not condemn yourself as a person of unfaithfulness. Try changing your prayer time, getting up if you are lying down, reading the Word aloud, and offering focused prayers several times a day, even if they are short. Put your cell phone away for a while and honestly take care of the rest your body needs. Small practices can revive a clouded prayer life. This video is not intended to make you fear yawning.
