Teurer Werkstatt-Stopp in Alaska: RISS IN DER BREMSSCHEIBE am VW Crafter

How expensive is a garage stop in Alaska, really? In this Alaska Vanlife Vlog, we have to take our VW Crafter "Captain Knut" to a garage in Anchorage: brake repairs, an oil change, and then onward along the Glenn Highway to Tok – right in the middle of our Alaska road trip back toward Canada. Our brakes are acting up: warning light on, crack in the front brake disc – and this is happening in the middle of Alaska. What started as a quick service turns into a mini garage odyssey in Anchorage: the first garage has no appointments, the second is so expensive it takes our breath away, and only on the third attempt do we finally find a garage that will take our German VW Crafter, repair the brakes, and even do an oil change while we're at it. It hurts our wallets, but with several thousand kilometers ahead of us through Alaska, the Yukon, across Canada to Halifax, we have no other choice – safety first. After the day at the garage, we leave Anchorage, find a campsite by the river, and take a deep breath. The next morning, a real highlight awaited us, one we'd heard far too little about: the Glenn Highway. For us, it was an absolute insider tip – at least as impressive as the famous Denali Highway. We drove back towards Tok, surrounded by glaciers, mountains, and endless expanses, spent a night at a gas station, and crossed the border back into Canada the following day. That was it for Alaska for now… but we will definitely be back.
