Tamara Gonzales at KLAUS VON NICHTSSAGEND Three Paintings at NO GALLERY
James Klam has had the unique opportunity to follow the careers of many artists within the New York scene for decades, and to document and present them to the worldwide public through his video reporting. Your correspondent believes it enhances an observer’s experience of the artist’s work if they can see the developments and evolution of an individual talent. Tamara Gonzales has continued to change and mature with each exhibition. “Amplifiers” presents recent paintings that seem to turn the idea of painting/frame inside out. Gonzales using her signature play of staining, stencils, whimsical scribbles, and sponge prints builds an enveloping “frame” of painted gesture while, in many cases, leaving the interior “picture” as monochrome slabs of color, a border with a void to be filled by the viewer. At the other end of the spectrum is the work of the young artist Jack Lawler, a 29-year-old painter, from New Jersey. Kalm having seen the work previously snagged the artist for a spontaneous interview about the rigorous technical approach this artist has taken to painting. Returning, viewers will have a chance to view the works by artists Benjamin Bertocci, and Todd Lim, the other participants in “Three Paintings” a three day pop-up show at No Gallery. A musical introduction is provided by Gold. This program was recorded January, 4, 6, and 13, 2024. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk
