Europeans Came to America… And Completely Lost It
World Cup fans are arriving in the United States, and their reactions to American roads, trucks, gas stations, food, distances, and everyday culture are absolutely hilarious. In this video, I’m reacting to Europeans experiencing America during the World Cup and discovering that many of the things they had only seen in movies are completely real. The video begins with European visitors driving massive American pickup trucks, listening to country music, enjoying smooth roads, and becoming strangely excited about going to Hooters. From there, the culture shock only gets bigger. They discover enormous American travel centers, dozens of gas pumps, giant food selections, yellow school buses, huge fire engines, multilane highways, Texas hospitality, and the American definition of a “short drive.” From my Finnish and European perspective, the driving distances were one of the funniest differences. Americans casually driving an hour and a half to meet someone for dinner still feels completely insane to me. I would need to like someone very much before agreeing to that journey! The enormous highway interchanges also looked like real-life Mario Kart. I would probably miss every exit, panic, and somehow end up in a completely different state. I was also fascinated by how excited the World Cup visitors were about ordinary American things. Europeans visit Buc-ee’s, Walmart, Waffle House, In-N-Out, school buses, pickup trucks, and convenience stores as though they are famous tourist attractions. Meanwhile, Americans visiting Europe are excited about castles, cathedrals, cobblestone streets, and historic architecture. That contrast says so much about how people romanticize the everyday life of another country. Another surprising moment involved a Boston bartender revealing how much she earned during a busy World Cup shift. Between credit card tips and cash, she made around $950 before additional tip-outs. That immediately made me reconsider my career choices! The video also showed cities across America welcoming international teams and supporters, including Scottish fans taking over Boston and visitors praising the warmth and hospitality they experienced in Texas. Seeing Europeans enjoying America so enthusiastically made me even more excited to visit. I still feel nervous about driving there, especially on those enormous roads, but I would love to experience an American truck, a giant roadside gas station, Texas food, and the famous Southern hospitality for myself. What surprised you most about America when you first visited? Are American highways actually easy to drive on once you get used to them? Also, how exactly do the yellow school buses work—do they really stop near every child’s house? Leave your answers and your best Texas travel recommendations in the comments.
