How To Run a '31' or 'Gap' in Men's Volleyball | 59% Better

I've received some questions from my viewers that are middles and setters out there on connecting better on the 31, this video is entirely focused on the intricacies of what you should be focused on for that particular route. Some broad areas of focus 1. Timing is a first tempo set to zone 3, so however fast you run your traditional '1' ball in the middle, find that same speed to zone 3 for a 31. 2. Ideally, you are jumping in the air at the point of release for the setter; the faster you run it, the harder to defend. But can also be harder to connect the faster you run it as well. 3. I encourage my middles to find the inside shoulder of the opposing right side blocker as a target to approach into, that way you can really find the gap between them if the middle doesn't close all the way to you. 4. Be cognizant of blocking tendencies if they are fully committed on you or releasing early, that will help you decide where to go with the ball. Definitely some tactical advantages to running the 31 in the flow of the game, in transition, and in certain rotations. I think it easiest to run out of rotations 1, 3, 4, and 6, although definitely possibility out of rotations 2 and 5, just has to be a perfect ball for it to be done consitently. The higher levels of volleyball you see, the more frequent this type of route comes into play, if middle is a position in volleyball you eventually want to compete at. Add this route to your bag and get plenty of reps in to hone your skills. Thanks for the suggestions, and keep the comments rolling on future videos you'd like to see!
