Inside AFRICA's Slave House in The Gambia 🇬🇲

Welcome to my Chanel if you are here for the first time, feel free to leave feedback on videos you have watched - like and SUBSCRIBE! I visited the Slave House in Janjanbureh, The Gambia — a place filled with silence, pain, memory, and the haunting echoes of a brutal past. 🇬🇲 Standing inside these walls is an emotional experience that is difficult to put into words. This was once a place where my ancestors, countless African men, women, and children were imprisoned, separated from their families, stripped of their freedom, and forced into the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade. The air feels heavy with sorrow. The heavy chains, shackles and restraining tools feel barbaric. Every room and every dark corner tells a story of unimaginable suffering and human cruelty during the colonial era. It is heartbreaking to imagine the fear, trauma, and hopelessness endured by those who passed through here — many never to return home again. Janjanbureh, formerly known as Georgetown during British colonial rule, became an important trading post along the River Gambia. Behind the beauty of the river and surrounding land lies a painful history deeply connected to slavery, exploitation, and colonial control that changed generations forever. Personally, this visit is more than a history lesson. It is a positive and negative reminder. A reminder of the resilience of African ancestors. A reminder of lives stolen and identities erased. A reminder that the scars of slavery and colonialism still live on today in many communities across the world. Walking through the Slave House forces you to reflect on humanity — on how much pain people endured, but also on the strength and survival of those who came before us. Some places truely leaves you speechless. This is one of them. May we never forget the past, and may the stories of those who suffered here continue to be told with dignity, truth, and respect.
