Australian Vietnam Veteran Trevor Murdoch Recalls His Experiences | Silent Burden Project
Silent Burden is a portrait and interview series exploring the untold stories of Vietnam War veterans — their experiences during deployment and the realities of life after service. Featuring four Australian veterans from different branches and stages of the conflict, the series shares their reflections on combat, adversity, brotherhood, and the difficult transition back to civilian life. Through these personal accounts, Silent Burden preserves their legacy, honours their service, and passes on the lessons they hope future generations will carry forward. This episode focuses on Trevor Murdoch, who was called up for national service and deployed to Vietnam with 9RAR. Serving as a rifleman in 1969 in the Phuoc Tuy Province, Trevor reflects on his experiences during the conflict and the challenges he faced both in the field and upon returning home.
