Sammy Miller gives an update about the latest restorations in the Museum workshop (December 2025).

Here's the latest update from Sammy and chief mechanic Jim about the current restoration projects underway in the Museum workshop. We start with Jim who gives an update on the Belgium c.1929-1931 La Mondiale. Donated by Sammy's good friend Bill McComb from Norther Ireland, it's a 350cc 2-stroke which mysteriously incorporates an oil reservoir at the front of the crankcase. Transmission is via a friction drive with a five-speed selector. Then Sammy takes the reigns and shows us the 1932 KSS Velocette Twin, a highly unusual, custom-built 700cc motorcycle created by combining two 350cc Velocette KSS engines. A project started by Peter Colin Peters and his son, resulting in a rare, powerful machine that features a unique engine and a specially adapted frame, potentially one-of-a-kind. Next up is the JD Motor Cycle, a product of Bowden Wire Ltd, from 1920. It has a 116cc two-stroke engine and friction transmission that drives the rear wheel. To de-clutch the driving disc is simply swung clear by a Bowden lever on the handlebar acting against two fairly light coil springs. Finally there's the 1950 trials Douglas. A genuine Works bike, it was also donated to the Museum Trust by Bill McComb. Bill is contacted on the phone to hear his incredible bikes running for the first time in many years, and Sammy takes the Douglas for a spin around the Museum courtyard!
