The Build Begins - Bass Pre Engineered Edition 4
This is the moment the Bass Pre finally becomes real. In this episode of the Bass Pre – Engineered Edition series, the build officially begins. Starting from the layout, I fabricate the circuit card from FR4, drill out the eyelet and mounting holes, install the eyelets, and populate the board with components. For the first time in this series, we move from design into physical construction. The build sequence is presented as a continuous timelapse, showing the full process from raw FR4 to a fully populated circuit card. This was my first time working with FR4, and while it produces a clean, professional result, the fiberglass dust is something that needs to be taken seriously—even with proper precautions. With the circuit card underway, I also finalize the front and rear panel layouts using DIY Layout Creator. The design balances signal flow, usability, and noise considerations—keeping power and signal separated, and using a low impedance cathode follower to ensure the longer output runs remain quiet and stable. This is one of those moments where layout drives the panels… and the panels drive the layout. At this stage, the internal layout is about 90% complete. What remains is finishing the wiring to the rear panel controls and laying out the power section. In the next episode, we move into the chassis—drilling, mounting the hardware, and starting to bring the entire build together. ⸻ ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 Intro 00:15 Safety Warning 00:25 Progression 00:40 The Build Begins 01:13 Get Away From My Door 02:22 Working FR4 05:03 Front & Rear Panel 07:22 Internal Layout Almost Done 10:28 Long Wire Runs 11:11 Transformer Placement 11:44 Rear Panel Component Placement 12:48 Conclusion 13:11 Next Episode 14:26 Outro ⸻ 🔎 RELATED TOPICS / KEYWORDS tube preamp build, bass preamp DIY, FR4 circuit board, eyelet board construction, turret board alternative, tube amp layout techniques, DIY Layout Creator, amp panel design, vacuum tube preamp, guitar amp build, PCB fiberglass safety, cathode follower output stage, low impedance audio design, amp chassis layout, signal vs power separation ⸻ Please like and subscribe, share the video, push that play button, and enjoy!
