GreenWay - Sydney - FIRST FULL TOUR - Iron Cove to Cooks River

The first full tour of Sydney’s brand-new GreenWay, the long-awaited "missing link" that officially connects the Cooks River to Iron Cove. Enjoy what you would see if walking the route, starting at Iron Cove, all the way to Cooks River at Earlwood. 🚀 VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: The absolute star of this new route is the engineering that finally links the path together. At 12min42sec, check out the incredible new elevated boardwalks and cantilevered sections hanging right over the canal—a perspective we've never been able to see before! Then we go through the brand-new tunnels under the major roads (Parramatta Rd & Old Canterbury Rd). These replace the old steep stairs and dangerous crossings, making the ride smooth and uninterrupted. 🎨 ART & SCULPTURES: Keep your eyes peeled as you watch — the GreenWay is now effectively an open-air gallery. You'll see several of the 8 newly commissioned public artworks, including the "TreeCycle" sculpture (made of recycled bike parts), the "Nature Play" installation at Gadigal Reserve, and vibrant new murals inside the tunnels themselves. 📺 BEST WAYS TO WATCH: Sightseeing: Preview the track before you visit this weekend. Exercise: This 32-minute uninterrupted POV is perfect for treadmill walking, jogging, running, or indoor cycling/spinning. Relaxing: Put it on the TV in the background and enjoy the green scenery and high-quality music. 📖 HISTORY: The "Lost" Canal of Sydney The water you see us riding beside is the Hawthorne Canal, but it wasn't always just a drain. Originally known as Long Cove Creek, it was widened in the 1890s with grand plans to be a major shipping channel. Boats & Ferries: Believe it or not, in 1903, a commercial ferry service actually operated here! The Drummoyne-Leichhardt Ferry Company ran 9 trips a day, whisking passengers down what is now a shallow concrete channel. Infrastructure: There were once wharves (like at Barton St) and footbridges for passengers. The Decline: Sadly, silt build-up and competition from the trams killed the ferry service by 1904, leaving us with the concrete canal we see today.
