We Tried the Top 15 Bars in Tokyo (...in One Night)

Tokyo has more bars than you could hit in a lifetime, so we tried 15 of them in one night. In this Friday Adventure, we set out to find the best district to drink in Tokyo by hitting three bars in each of the city’s most legendary neighborhoods: Asakusa Ginza Ebisu Shibuya Shinjuku Golden Gai Five districts. Fifteen bars. One winner crowned at the end. We started in Asakusa at a tiny hole in the wall where horse sashimi was casually on the menu. Then we went to Kamiya Bar, one of the oldest bars in Japan, for sake and a classic meat platter to build the base for what would become a very long night. Next up was Ginza. We found a mystical fairytale cocktail bar, a completely silent bar, and a spot with no menu where you just trust the bartender and hope for the best. From there we took the subway to Ebisu, grabbed drinks at 7 Eleven, did karaoke, and met a ton of new friends at a packed standing bar. Then came Shibuya, where Rusty took a shot of snake liquor with some businessmen and the night took a sharp turn. We finished in Golden Gai in Shinjuku, a maze of tiny bars packed shoulder to shoulder. At some point we lost Rusty. Willy lost his wallet. Things escalated. By the end of the night, we ranked all five districts and crowned the best place to drink in Tokyo.
