FOUR DEAD, 29 INJURED IN ACCIDENT AFTER VEHICLE LEFT ROAD AND TURNED OVER IN MBEYA REGION On May 31, 2026 at 9:10 pm at the water areas of Mbeya – Chunya road, a vehicle with registration number T134DFB type Mitsubishi passenger bus of Mwasote company coming from Mbeya towards Chunya driven by driver Nehemia Sanga [50] resident of Uyole left the road, overturned and caused the deaths of four people, 3 men and 1 woman aged between 35 – 40. Two of the deceased were identified as Hamza, 30 years old and Matrida Mwabanganya, aged between 30 to 36. In addition, 29 people were injured in the accident, including 24 men and 5 women. 11 of the injured were admitted and 18 others were treated at the Mbeya Regional Referral Hospital and discharged among them 17 men and 1 woman. The cause of the accident is the negligence of the driver of Car number T134DFB who failed to control his car at a sharp corner and then left the road and overturned. The driver continues to receive medical treatment under guard. HE IS ARRESTED ON ALLEGATIONS OF ARMED ROBBERY, BURGLARY AND RAPE. The Mbeya Regional Police Force is holding Siwema Yona Simfukwe [24] A prisoner who escaped from prison on May 13, 2026 while serving a 30-year sentence for the crime of Armed Robbery on suspicion of armed robbery incidents. The suspect, after escaping from prison, has committed robberies, burglaries and rapes in the Iwambi area, Mbeya City. Among these incidents is the incident on May 15, 2026 at 2:30 pm in Iwambi where he invaded the house of a citizen with a weapon [Panga] and threatened to kill the child of the family if they did not obey his orders, then tied them up and raped the mother and daughter of a worker, robbed two iPhone 15 and 16 phones along with 400,000 shillings in cash. In addition, on May 22, 2026 at 3 pm in Iwambi he invaded the house of another citizen and robbed an iPhone 11 Plain phone and 300,000 shillings in cash that were on the phone by ordering him to give the phone password and successfully transferred the money. Following these incidents, the Mbeya Regional Police Force through a special police unit for preventing and combating crime conducted a search and on May 30, 2026 at 10:30 pm in Chipaka, Momba District, Songwe Region, succeeded in arresting the suspect Siwema Yona Simfukwe [24] on suspicion of these crimes. The suspect was found with a locally made weapon, a sword, one Shot Gun bullet and two bullets that were in his pockets. The act of finding these weapons angered the citizens who began to attack the suspect, however, the efforts of the police officers succeeded in rescuing him and rushing him to the Mbeya Referral Hospital for treatment. The Mbeya Regional Police Force calls on drivers to be careful on the road including adhering to road safety laws to avoid accidents. In addition, the Mbeya Regional Police Force continues to advise some citizens to stop crime as it has no place in society and will not hesitate to arrest and take legal action against anyone found to be involved in crime.
