Qube on the Tottenham NSW branch with 3 DL531s and a large train. 18 February 2024.

Train 8960 with three DL531s on the branch line. Qube had finished loading at Tottenham and were preparing to leave. We flow the train on the up as it progresses towards Bogan Gate. The might and power of the DL531s, two 830 and one 48 class units are tested by the loaded train as it strains against grade and grain. This export grain train is headed ultimately to Port Kembla. It is unusual to see Qube on this branch comparative to previously Pacific National and SSR. Though the branch's fortunes are such that it seems b double and b triple tipper trucks are much more numerous on the road between Tottenham and Trundle. It seems the age of rail is now an exception, no longer the norm on this branch. Though previously there were attempts to close the branch and that was prevented by the community rallying behind the branch. It is a pleasure being in central NSW. Thanks to Graincorp and Qube staff who made this day such a pleasure to capture this train. The Qube crews, as there were crew changes during this journey must have enjoyed the air conditioning as it was a hot February day. And it is a long one on the branch where the trip to Bogan Gate is about five to six hours away. Thanks to those who keep me in touch with rail activity.
