An effective and basic interval workout for long-distance runners is 400-meter repetitions. Many runners add this workout to their plan year-round, varying the volume and intensity depending on their training period. For a casual runner, this workout can be quite challenging, because by 400 meters you're already reaching the point where it's functionally challenging.
