Snowdon for the First Time | Pyg Track Up, Miners Track Down

My first attempt at Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) — the highest mountain in Wales — and the weather had other plans. I climbed the Pyg Track from Pen-y-Pass, made it through all seven checkpoints, and then made the hardest call in hiking: turning back. What followed was one of the best descents I've ever walked, down the Miners Track past lakes with actual Arthurian legends in them (and some very good sheep). If you're planning your own Snowdon hike, everything practical is below — including the parking hack that saves you a small fortune at Pen-y-Pass. 🅿️ THE PARKING HACK Park at Nant Peris Park & Ride — £5 for the ENTIRE day (postcode: LL55 4UF) Sherpa'r Wyddfa bus (S1) to Pen-y-Pass — £5.50 return, ~10 min ride Why: Pen-y-Pass car park must be pre-booked, costs several times more, and fills up fast Total: just over £10 for parking + transport, no pre-booking stress 🥾 THE ROUTES (round trip times vary 5–8 hrs depending on pace) Pyg Track (my route up) — ~7 miles round trip, rocky and steep in places, incredible views early Miners Track (my route down) — easier gradient except one steep section, passes Llyn Llydaw & Glaslyn Llanberis Path — longest but most gradual (~9 miles round trip) Watkin Path — the steepest, starts from Nant Gwynant Crib Goch — NOT a beginner route. Exposed knife-edge scramble. Please don't. ⚠️ HONEST ADVICE FROM THIS TRIP Start EARLY — my 1pm start left no buffer when the weather turned Check the mountain forecast, not the village forecast (search "Met Office Snowdon summit forecast") Refuel little and often, before you feel you need it Turning back is not failing.
