TRAPPED in Thick Smoke, Volunteer Firefighter Fights for Life | Hellfire Heroes S1
A young firefighter runs into trouble while climbing a ladder during a Yellowhead County Edson fire hall training session. In Slave Lake, inside a steel walled training chamber, firefighters test their ability to manage stress, breathing, and their ability to conserve air. In Edson, working in a heavy smoke, zero-visibility session, 20-year-old volunteer firefighter Megan Hunt and her team of firefighters feel their way through a simulated structure fire, searching for an unconscious victim. In a test of physical stamina and strength, a young firefighter loses consciousness while rescuing a 150 pound victim. A firefighter backup crew resuscitates the unconscious firefighter, and leaves his partner to complete the training session, and haul him out of the building. A vehicle rollover drill entraps four patients and ejects two others into a swift moving river. Lieutenant Patrick McConnell leads a rope and tackle technical rescue, while Captain David Perkinson commands the injured patient extrication. Chief Coutts recalls how, earlier this season, his crew rescued two young children from the steep banks of an icy river - a vivid reminder that sometimes the difference between saving a life and losing a life is a matter of preparedness and training. Back up north, at the Yellowhead County, Edson Firehall, Chief Bahri tests firefighter Megan Hunt’s firetruck driving skills on an obstacle course in the fleets newest acquisition, the “Million Dollar Baby”. Responding to a 911 call for a vehicle fire on a remote country road, Chief Behri suspects arson. 287 kilometres south, Chief Jamie Coutts gives his crew a front row ticket to a fully engulfed vehicle fire that demonstrates the lethal dangers of exploding car parts. Chief Coutts ignites a real house - for an all-hands training session. Chief Albert Bahri doesn't have an old house to burn, but he's got ...”The Box”, a scaled down version of a standard room in a North America home, designed to reproduce the stages of thermal layering, a key concept for firefighter survival. In still another dramatic training session, firefighter Colton Armstrong becomes trapped inside a structure fire, and has to rely on Megan to locate and rescue him - before he runs out of air.
