In 2001, Heide Park invested around €23 million in the construction of Colossos, the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world at the time. The ride was built in just seven months and set new standards in wooden roller coaster construction with prefabricated wooden elements and modern track systems. After 15 years of operation, the ride had to be shut down in 2016 due to damage to the special track. However, the renovation was very complex, as the track had to be completely remade. It wasn't until 2018 that the decision was made to preserve Colossos and comprehensively modernize it. Merlin invested €12 million in new track, new theming, and a revised storyline. Colossos was back and is now known as Colossos - Battle of the Giants.
