Bomberman II (NES) - Area 1, Jail

So as you saw in the short opening intro, Bomberman is casually strolling around in a city where he runs into Black Bomber who goes from stealing a damsel to his Castle to robing money from a bank only to then pin the crime on White (well damn), he gets arrested shortly after and now he has to break out of prison, prove his innocence, and bring Black Bomber to justice. In the Japanese manual, the fourth page mentions something about Bomberman being an“ambitious young man”and working as a miner, a strange occupation for someone like him to have and no other game in the series ever refers to him as a such either. Our gameplay is the same as it’s always been, defeat all enemies and find the exit, there is still one power up per stage and the music will change letting you know you’ve collected it. This game barrows quite a few aspects from the TG16 game with how similarly it plays and looks with Bomberman’s sprite looking exactly how it did in TG16 and the same for some of the returning enemies. However, only things being absent this time around are the vertical scrolling stages, bosses, and a few of the standard enemies. Some enemies have been tweaked up a bit to give them a little more unique characteristics so they aren’t just being copies of Barom all the time, the ghost enemies in this area for example can not only move through walls but they also teleport to where you are. Returning from the NES game which then went missing in TG16 are Bonus Stages and they work a little differently here than last time. Every 6th stage per area will have a Bonus item (an image of Bomberman) for you to collect, once you collect it and clear the stage are you then taken to the Bonus Stage. Like before, enemies will continuously spawn in and you’ll have to defeat as many as possible, you are completely invulnerable to the enemies and your own bomb blasts so go crazy with the Chain Bomb trick to your heart’s content, a running Bomberman will also appear in the middle of the stage, collecting it will give you an extra life.
