WWII German Fritz-X Remote Controlled Anti-Ship Missile – Why it did not live up to expectations.
During WWII the German adopted a guided remote controlled radio guided missile, the Fritz-X bomb. The main targets would be ships. The advantage of the munitions was they could be released from a stand off distance from a ship and the likelihood of strikes was dramatically increased since the operator could directed the missiles trajectory. During 6 months of combat operations, between Aug 1943 and Feb 1944 28 bombs were dropped on targets, 5 struck ships. One ship sunk, and 4 were damaged. The video will review the Fritz-X bomb.
