"The Grey Selkie of Sule skerry" sung by Maz O'Connor with the Grey seals of the UK
A traditional Orcadian folk song sung by Maz O'Connor from her album, This Willowed light. I have added a backing video featuring some of the grey seals we filmed on various dives including the German wrecks of Scapa Flow, The wreck of the Tapti off Coll and of course the Farne Isles. The footage was shot by Hinotony & myself. A Selkie or Silkie or Sylkie or Selchie or Kelpie is a supernatural seal who remove their pelts to transform into a man or woman while on land. Sule skerry is a rocky outcrop in the Atlantic 25 miles to the west of Orkney.
