St. James OD Comparison - EL34 vs 6L6 | Blackstar

Hear the difference between Channel II on the St. James EL34 vs 6L6 model. Channel II of the EL34 powered St. James is very vintage in nature. The brand-new preamp design delivers the raucous crunch you’d expect from an EL34 amp but with stunning clarity and chime. All this is topped off with a footswitchable +10dB front-end boost. Channel II of the 6L6 powered head and combo is an absolute gain machine. In standard mode, the amp has a gloriously British, ‘punch in the chest’ roar. However, with the Voice switch activated, the saturation gets cranked ‘to 11’ and the power-stage damping is reduced for a girthy, modern-sounding, high-gain, low-end chug.
