A Simple Japanese Meal From Her Mother
Yoshiko prepares a traditional Japanese home dish called Nikujaga — a simple stew made with potatoes, onions, vegetables, and thinly sliced meat simmered in soy sauce, mirin, and sake. This comforting dish has been cooked in Japanese homes for generations. It is nourishing, simple, and full of gentle flavor. In this video Yoshiko shows her own home-style version, the way she learned to cook it growing up. Nikujaga is one of those meals that reminds many Japanese people of family cooking and childhood memories. Thank you for joining us in our kitchen here in Tokyo.
