Fishing the UK’s MOST FAMOUS barbel peg
It's late February as I set off on another angling adventure, but with spring on its way, so is the end of the UK's traditional river fishing season. Knowing my chances of fishing the RIVER TRENT were running out, I made the decision to head back to COLLINGHAM, where I'd previously only fished once before but caught lots of lovely, BIG BARBEL. Although Collingham is a day ticket stretch of the tidal Trent, run by Collingham Angling Association with tickets available on the bank, their section of river begins with the most famous barbel fishing swim of them all... The beach-like peg 1A, right below the impressive CROMWELL WEIR. This huge, manmade feature represents the start of the tidal Trent and churns a cauldron of oxygenated water that countless barbel love to visit and feed in. So many barbel and to such a great size that, in certain conditions, many anglers have enjoyed their best ever barbel catches (numbers and size) from the very spot that I had just been given permission to fish myself! Please note that pegs 1A to 4 - the closest to Cromwell Weir on the Collingham weir field - are very popular and are therefore not the cheapest place to fish, but it can be well worth the expense if this is your dream. More information about booking them, which is essential in advance, plus all the other amazing fishing pegs (which are day ticket on the bank), can be found on the excellent Collingham Angling Association website - https://collinghamaa.co.uk/ A feature-length release from The Magic of Fishing so, as always, please sit back, relax and enjoy...
