Birding Brazil's NE Atlantic Forest 2 (JACAMARS, Seriemas, Capuchins, Capybaras and MORE)

Birding Brazil's NE Atlantic Forest 2 — Second video of our 4 video series from our trip to Brazil in January 2017. With some incidental scenery photos from our August 2007 trip to Brazil. Our "Cover Bird" and Title Bird is the Rufous-tailed Jacamar (02:13). It was photographed our last morning at REGUA (Reserva Ecológica Guapiaçu) in the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest). As this photograph shows jacamars are all about eating flying insects. Striking coloring and a cooperative subject! MOST PHOTOGENIC AWARDS (in order of appearance) go to: Chestnut-backed Antshrike couple starting at (02:33) Male Blue-back Grassquit at (16:17) Male Blue Dacnis at (18:26) Other bird species featured: RED-LEGGED SERIEMAS—(01:11) were a great find! JACAMARS—Rufous-tailed (02:13) and Three-toed (17:19). As mentioned above, we saw the Rufous-tailed Jacamar while we were at REGUA.Our guide Ricardo knew just where to look for the Three-toed Jacamars in the hills above the small city of Carmo. CUCKOOS—The Guira Cuckoo shows off at (06:05) and is followed by 5 of the cutest chicks all in a row at (6:14). The Squirrel Cuckoo (08:34) is a good looking bird too! HUMMINGBIRDS—Fork-tailed Woodnymph (10:07) and Glittering-throated Emerald (20:30). Hummers are always a delight. TANAGERS—Brazilian (07:32); Yellow-backed (10:15); Lowland Hepatic (11:19); Green-headed (16:36); Rufous-headed (19:50) and finally the Ruby-crowned (20:54) male and female, which were our final birds of this video. OTHER FAVORITES: OWLS—Two Tropical Screech Owls playing peek-a-boo at (09:43). FOLIAGE GLEANER—A Buff-throated Foliage Gleaner at its nest. RAPTORS—Southern Crested Caracara (00:09); Savanna Hawk (05:46) and Laughing Falcon (09:24) PARROTS—Blue-winged Parrotlets at (14:04) and Maroon-bellied Parakeet at (15:00) WOODPECKERS—Yellow-fronted (12:35) and Yellow-eared (15:35). LOOK for the White-beared Manakin (19:19) , flycatchers, elaenias, euphonias, greenlets, antwrens, antbirds, ant shrikes, wrens, becards and more! Not just birds: BROWN CAPUCHINS (03:35) were hanging around in the trees. CAPYBARAS—(04:26) We've never seen so many at once! TAYRA—One strolled by at (11:32). MARMOSET—(19:03) a Brazilian native. Locations visited included REGUA—Reserva Ecológica Guapiaçu, Pousada Vale dos Sonhos, Barra do Piraí, Valença, Carmo, Duas Barras, Parque Nacional Itatiaia, and more. The staff at REGUA made our stay there comfortable and provided excellent guides. The grounds there make for great birding and wildlife viewing. We also saw many colorful insects but didn't get them photographed on this trip. After we finished our time at REGUA, we met the guide for the balance of our trip, Ricardo. He drove us to all of our other locations. He helped us find SO many birds! We highly recommend REGUA and our independent guide Ricardo. Equipment used was Canon 70D with a Canon EF100-400mm lens.
