Moszkowski - Polonaise Op.17 No.1 (Abridged) Played by Leopold Godowsky Duo Art recording C.1920

Godowsky was one of the first pianists to make recordings on the Duo Art recording system. In his hands this Polonaise demonstrates his spectacular pianism on a work by a fellow Pole. The American Aeolian company (Duo Art) were nothing less than commercial, so this fine piece and also possibly the performance, was abridged. Despite their publicity, the Duo Art system was thoroughly flawed compared to the German Welte Mignon as due to the reproducing system, several keys at each end of the 88 required were not sounded, as one can see at the extremity of the bass end.
