This time, I'll share the total cost of everything from my mother's funeral on May 28th, through the 49th-day memorial service, the interment, and the dismantling of the family altar. My father passed away when I was 25, and my mother was the youngest child. My older siblings have already passed away, and my only relatives are female cousins. I chose a "direct cremation" plan, where we went straight to the crematorium without a funeral service. I'll openly discuss everything, including the offerings to the temple and the cost of engraving the tombstone, which became necessary because we had a grave, as well as the storage and repose fees when the crematorium was crowded. I'll also touch upon the unexpected "strange incident" that occurred at the crematorium in the middle of the city, involving the priest who came to chant sutras at the departure of the coffin.
