The Real Reason Women Can’t Be Priests

The debate over women’s ordination is usually framed as a question of equality, dignity, or leadership. But Catholic and Orthodox Christianity see the issue very differently. The question is not whether women are holy enough, intelligent enough, or capable enough. The Theotokos herself destroys that argument. Mary is holier than every bishop who ever lived — and yet she was not ordained. So what is the real question? The question is sign. In this video, we explore why the male priesthood is rooted not in superiority, but in sacramental symbolism, the theology of the body, the Incarnation, the Eucharist, and the icon of Christ the Bridegroom giving Himself to His Bride, the Church. We also look at why this question belongs to a much larger crisis in the modern world: whether the body has meaning, or whether it is merely raw material for the will. The body is not a costume; the visible sign must cohere with the invisible grace.
