A rainy day in Hanoi brings both quiet warmth and heavy worries to my small family. Since extra tutoring in the city is far too expensive for our tight budget, I bought a simple paper wall chart to tutor my children at home. Fixing it up in our small room wasn't easy, but seeing my oldest son helping me with the chores and growing up bit by bit made my heart melt. However, surviving on a low income in Hanoi means facing tough realities. Every time it rains heavily, our kitchen roof leaks, leaving the floor damp and dirty. To save every penny on living expenses during these difficult times, I decided to visit the famous Long Bien wholesale market at midnight. Walking through the bustling, chaotic paths of the night market at 2 AM was overwhelming. From the crowded seafood docks sorting fresh shrimp and squid to the heavy fruit crates hauled by strong local women, life here never sleeps.
