Ponte Morandi, la storia di Natalia ed Eugeniu: "Stavamo per morire, la nostra vita è cambiata"

Eugeniu and Natalia are originally from Eastern Europe, but have lived in the province of Caserta for many years. They survived the collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa on August 14, 2018. Their car plunged into the void while they were on their way to vacation in France. They waited for hours for rescuers to extract them from the pile of debris and metal in which they were trapped. They suffered serious injuries, he to his neck and she to her spine and legs. A year later, they still bear the scars of the tragedy: "Our life has changed a lot. I still can't twist my neck," explains Eugeniu. "I'm a young man of 36. I used to play soccer and ride a motorcycle, but now I can't do that anymore." But their thoughts go to those who didn't make it: "When we went to the beach, after so long," says Natalia, "I thought of the 43 people who died and who couldn't even see that." The couple, who will be married in October, run a beauty salon but have not yet fully returned to work: "I'm afraid to walk down the street because my legs are so heavy," says Natalia. They spoke to Fanpage.it cameras about the collapse and the miraculous rescue by firefighters. "We are survivors," says Eugeniu. "We could have died, and we're still here."
