SYNAPSE WING BUILD - Method B: Base Cut Then Build

Here is the build option where the pre-covered foamboard is first cut at the part that will become the wing root lower surface. This establishes the sweep angle and root baseline relative to which all other structures are laid down. This is a more forgiving, deliberate construction technique with less chance of truly damaging the wing as you make it. This wing construction uses standard Experimental Airlines techniques. If you are not familiar you may wish to look at other videos on this channel before proceeding. The base cut is the only mandatory starting cut. You may also cut off the upper wing root and even the wing tip before folding up the wing, but be aware that the geometry of bending a straight-line cut on an oblique camber can result in some weird results, like not quite lining up the upper and lower surfaces squarely. I like to just cut off the wingtip in one piece If you are considering a collapsible wing think about using a rigid spar channel insert such as a carbon arrow or aluminum arrow or thin plastic, inside which fits the actual spar made of carbon fiber or wood dowel can easily and reliably pass through, over and over.
