Temples of Malappuram District 9.

Alur Shiva temple is installed by Rishis who did penance in the dense forests. Till 15th centuury this had been a Brahmana settlement. Kirathamurthy and Kirathi (Thwaritha) sankalpam. Melattoor Narasimhamurthy Mahavishnu is ancient and this also was a Brahmana settlement. In 18th century they entrusted to a Pisharody family . Narasimha is Soumyamurthy enjoying Prahladasthuthi. Puthramanna Shiva also in melattoor is ancient. Swayambhu. Another ancient temple is Poonthanam Mahavishnu temple .At present it is under Guruvayur devaswom. Muthukurussi Ayyappan kav sastha is on banks of Velliyar alias Oravampuram puzha. Very ancient .SWAYAMBHU manifested for Rishis who were doing penance in forest. They entrusted it to Mannarmala Kovilakam. There are 2 wells,one of them has connection to Sreekovil through underground. Manjerikavu Ayyappan and Kailot Shiva are also ancient. Manjerikav belongs to Ayiranazhi kovilakam. Vadakkiniedath Durga is very ancient and belongs to Kadannamanna kovilakam. The 4 branches of Valluvanat Raja are Kadannamanna ,Mankata, Ayiranazhi and Aripra.
