Geology Beach Walk, Whidbey Island, WA

A walk along the beach at Double Bluff Park, showing the exposed layers dating back to the ice ages in Puget Sound. I’m not trained in Geology, but I’m an interested hiker, learning along the way. I learned about this hike from a book by WWU Professor Dave Tucker, Geology Underfoot in Western Washington. The book describes several geology hikes in Western Washington, and this one describes the history of the glacial periods in Puget Sound along with the specific layers and formations that you’ll see. Visit his channel at    / geologynick   *Update* Based on scientific study of deep sea core sediments and the record of historic oxygen level changes in O-1 ... there are now 33 identified glacial and interglacial times during the last ice age! *Correction* I said in the video that the Chesapeake Bay is in Maryland, but the northern portion is in Maryland and the southern portion is in Virginia! According to Wikipedia it is about 200 miles long and more than 150 major rivers and streams flow into it!
