An Introduction to the Lap Steel Guitar - Volume 2

This tutorial follows on from Volume 1 in the series which looked at the Hawaiian Lap Steel, D minor open tuning, and the style of legendary steel players such as Jerry Byrd. In this video, an open D major tuning is showcased via 'Steel Guitar Rag', a tune composed by Leon McAuliff in 1936, and recorded by Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. The tune went on to become the first instrumental standard for the steel guitar and is played in a western swing style. The need to temper tune the lap steel is discussed as is a reference to the famous Nashville pedal steel player Lloyd Green's approach to tuning.
