8 (Major) Storylines Cut from the Original Conan the Barbarian (1982) Movie - Explored

One thing I have always found fascinating about Conan the Barbarian is that the version we all know and celebrate apparently was not the full creature that John Milius originally wanted to unleash in the world. So, if you are thinking that this movie could have been bigger, you are absolutely right, my friend! Because let's be honest, the 1982 film was already HUGE! It has myth, brutality, and a strange sword-and-sorcery feel where half the time it feels like you are watching an old legend somebody scratched into a stone wall centuries ago. And yet… there was more. So, of course, I did what any curious nerd does. I went down the rabbit hole. And if you are one of us, you know how that spiral works. You read about deleted scenes, watch old DVD extras from the early 2000s, scroll through production stills, dig through fan forums, and read breakdowns of workprint. And every time I do that, I get the same feeling. Man… a big chunk of this world got left in the editing room. However, the material that vanished did not vanish for one simple reason. It was a mixed bag. Some of those cuts were about violence, some were about pacing, and some seem to have come from the studio over how harsh or strange the film could get, so the studio stepped in and said yeah… maybe we tone that down a little. #conan
