Mayhan Road HDR: Autumn's Most Breathtaking Drive

The Xiaojin Mayhan (Meiwo-Hanniu) Road, located in Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is a mountain road connecting Meiwo Township and Hanniu Township. The road begins in Meixing Town, Xiaojin County, passes through Meiwo, Hanniu, Wodi, and Pan'an, and ends in Gezong Township, Danba County. The total length is 84 kilometers, of which the section between Meiwo Township and Hanniu Township is 51.66 kilometers. The entire Mayhan Road is constructed to Class IV highway standards, with a roadbed width of 4.5 meters and a pavement width of 4.0 meters. It is a Class IV highway in mountainous terrain. The road was completed and opened to traffic in 2009. It is a major transportation project assisted by Jiangxi Province after the Wenchuan earthquake. The Meihan Road is a key post-disaster reconstruction project for the "5.12" Wenchuan earthquake. After the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, Jiangxi Province organized a construction team to build this road across the Mukekeliangzi, which is 4,916 meters above sea level. During road construction, five Jiangxi engineers tragically died in a mudslide, the worst in 60 years. On September 30, 2009, this 51-kilometer snow-capped mountain road was officially opened and named the "Meihan Highway," a combination of the initials of Meiwo and Hanniu townships. Because the road traverses a peak pass at an altitude of 4,916 meters, local Tibetan and Han Chinese have affectionately dubbed this bloodline road the "Sky Road." The Meihan Road is a key thoroughfare connecting Xiaojin County and Danba County, providing more convenient travel options for residents along the route.
