In today’s world of rising food costs and processed convenience meals, I wanted to experience firsthand what a full day of lower class meals during WW1 truly looked like — from breakfast to supper. This video documents that entire day. This is Part 2 in my Historical Cooking series, where I explore how everyday people survived, cooked, and nourished their families during some of the most difficult periods in modern history. In this episode, I follow authentic WW1 meal guides created specifically for lower-class households, using archived historical documents and vintage recipe sources. The meals are simple, affordable, and surprisingly comforting — and the experience taught me far more than I ever expected about hunger, restraint, and resilience. Food connects us to the past. It connects us to our grandmothers, to times of struggle, and to the quiet strength of women who kept families fed with very little. ⸻ 🎥 Watch Part 1 (The Wealthy WW1 Diet) here: 👉 • Eating Like It’s World War 1 for a Day • Eating Like It’s World War 1 for a Day 📚 Historical Sources & Recipes Used: •How To Plan Meals In Wartime https://archive.org/details/howtoplan... •Economical Diet and Cookery In Times Of Emergency https://archive.org/details/economica... •Cheese And It’s Economical Uses In The Diet (Exact references can be found on page 13 of this document ) https://archive.org/details/cheeseits... •Dried Applesauce Recipe: https://little-house-books.supadu.io/...
