Solo winter wild camp in the Scottish Highlands. This Christmas Eve I spent the night completely alone, wild camping on a mountain in the Scottish Highlands, sheltered in my Hilleberg Soulo. Buachaille Etive Mòr and Stob Dearg — probably Scotland’s most iconic mountains — are peaks I’ve driven past for over 30 years. This Christmas, I needed to be with them. No crowds. No celebrations. Just wind, cold, silence, and my own thoughts. I’m not here to escape Christmas — just to experience it differently. Wild camping solo in winter strips everything back. It’s challenging and uncomfortable at times, but also deeply grounding. The Scottish Highlands have a way of reminding you what really matters when there’s nowhere to hide and no one else around.
