Gulmarg, meaning "Meadow of Flowers," is one of the most beautiful and historically significant hill stations in the Kashmir Valley. Originally known as Gaurimarg, it was associated with the Hindu goddess Parvati. In the 16th century, Kashmiri ruler Yusuf Shah Chak renamed it Gulmarg, reflecting its vibrant meadows filled with colorful wildflowers. During the Mughal Empire, Emperor Jahangir admired its natural beauty and frequently visited the region. In the 19th century, under the Dogra Dynasty and later the British, Gulmarg developed into a popular summer retreat, with the introduction of golf courses, pony trails, and skiing. Today, Gulmarg is a world-famous tourist destination known for the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the world's highest cable cars, its snow-covered slopes, adventure sports, and breathtaking alpine landscapes, attracting visitors from across the globe throughout the year.
