Auf geht's: ein Tagesausflug von Berlin auf den Brocken

September 4, 2021. Today, I'm exceptionally heading west to the Harz Mountains because I want to try cycling from Berlin to the Brocken. I don't really believe I can do it in one day, but I still want to try! My goal is to arrive in Wernigerode by 4 p.m. at the latest, otherwise it will be too late and too dark for the climb. However, I hadn't anticipated some obstacles, such as the poor roads between Brandenburg an der Havel and Magdeburg, and the traffic through Magdeburg, which takes longer than planned. The fastest way to Wernigerode wouldn't have been through Magdeburg at all, but directly to Barby and then by ferry to the other side of the Elbe. But I didn't want to rely on the ferry, and besides, I wanted to see Magdeburg again—a very beautiful city. I run to Wernigerode and I'm pretty exhausted by the time I finally arrive! But my bike gives me courage, and we decide to continue on to the Brocken after all. A huge advantage: the day before, @wolfsmensch uffn velo showed and explained the route to the summit in detail in his videos, including the elevation profile. This means I have a good idea of what to expect! An unforgettable tour, perhaps the most exciting I've ever done.
