1 Year Running: 12 Lessons Learned & How Much I’ve Improved

One year ago I laced up a pair of running shoes and headed out for my very first run. It wasn’t pretty. I managed just over a mile, I was completely out of breath, and there was plenty of swearing along the way! Fast forward 12 months and running has completely changed my life. In this video I share the 12 biggest lessons I’ve learned during my first year of running. Some things I got right, plenty of things I got wrong, and hopefully my experiences can help anyone who is thinking about starting their own running journey. 🏃‍♂️ 12 Lessons From My First Year Running: 1️⃣ Running is hard – don’t expect it to be easy. 2️⃣ Don’t do too much too soon – injury can quickly set you back. 3️⃣ Buy the best running shoes you can afford. 4️⃣ Create a routine and stick to it. 5️⃣ You don’t need expensive running gear. 6️⃣ Give parkrun a try. 7️⃣ Enter races and running events when you’re ready. 8️⃣ Stop comparing yourself to everyone online. 9️⃣ Listen to your body. 🔟 Try different training methods from the start. 1️⃣1️⃣ Set goals and targets. 1️⃣2️⃣ Most importantly – have fun. Along the way I’ve completed parkruns, races, training runs, long runs, tried different training methods, tested running shoes, and learned far more than I ever expected. And make sure you stay until the end where I reveal just how much I’ve improved over the last 12 months compared to that very first run. A massive thank you to Julie for all the support, encouragement and motivation throughout this journey. I genuinely couldn’t have done it without her. If you’re new to running, thinking about starting, or already on your own running journey, let me know in the comments what lesson you’ve learned along the way. 👍 Like the video 💬 Leave a comment 🔔 Subscribe for more running adventures, parkrun tourism, beginner running challenges, race days, shoe reviews and honest running content. #Running #BeginnerRunner #RunningJourney #RunWithMe #Parkrun #RunningMotivation #RunningTips #Runner #FitnessJourney #RunningCommunity #5KRunner #10KRunner #TomAndJulieRun #FirstYearRunning #RunningLife
