Easy Apple Strudel !! A Disney Vault Classic!!
This oldie but goodie recipe from the Disneyland Hotel will make you wonder why anyone thinks apple strudel is too hard to make! Easy as 1-2-3 and you have a show stopping dessert worthy of impressing anybody!! #recipe #food #cooking #apple, Ingredients: 1 Pound Of Apples , Approximately 6 Apples (1/4-1/2 inch slice, the slices cut in half) ( I used golden delicious) 1/3 Cup Sugar 1/2 Tsp. Ground Cinnamon 5 Sheets Phyllo Dough ( I used Athens) 1 1/2 Sticks Of Butter 1/8 Cup Powdered Sugar Egg Wash: 1 Whole Egg Scrambled 1 Tbl. Cream Directions: The night before you plan on making your strudel, thaw phyllo dough in the fridge overnight. In the morning take it out of fridge and let get to room temp. Preheat oven to 375 Degrees F. Peel your apples and slice in 1/4-1/2 in slices and cut each slice in half. Play slices in med bowl. Stir together your sugar and cinnamon. Spoon approx. 1/3 of cinnamon sugar over apples and stir, then set aside. Melt butter in microwave and set aside. Crack egg into small bowl. Add 1 Tbl. cream and scramble together. Set aside. Unwrap phyllo dough and lay onto baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap, then with damp towel. Place large towel or parchment on work surface. Take out one piece of phyllo and lay flat on work surface. Brush entire phyllo sheet with butter. Next lay another sheet on top of the other and brush it with butter. Repeat this until you have 5 sheets of phyllo dough stacked and each one covered with butter. Scoop apples with your hands from the bowl and place on buttered phyllo at end of narrow edge. Leave approx. 2 inches clear on the sides. Sprinkle with rest of cinnamon sugar. Roll the sides first and butter the edges. Next, as tightly as you can, roll up the strudel. Place it on parchment lined baking sheet and brush with egg wash. Bake in 375 degree F oven for 30 minutes until golden. Take out of oven and let rest 15 mins. Slice and served dusted with powdered sugar. ENJOY!
