Angie Rodríguez was President Gustavo Petro's right-hand woman until December of last year, serving as director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency. She was a constant companion of the head of state on his international trips and even wielded considerable power within the Casa de Nariño (Presidential Palace). Since December of last year, following a bitter falling out with the then-director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, Carlos Carrillo, and with Chief of Staff Raúl Moreno, Rodríguez fell out of favor with President Petro. Since then, she has been making a series of accusations regarding alleged irregularities in contracting during what has been called the "government of change." Despite her growing estrangement from President Petro, Rodríguez did not leave the government. Instead, she was reassigned as director of the Adaptation Fund, which manages a substantial budget for emergency response and issues related to the consequences of climate change. She had been performing this role without apparent incident until last weekend, when she decided to once again criticize decisions made by the head of state. The "Llorente vase" incident was Angie Rodríguez's criticism of Petro's order last week to use nearly one trillion pesos from the Adaptation Fund to address the emergency caused by El Niño. This came on top of her previous criticisms of the president's handling of various issues, including the power he ultimately granted to figures like Juliana Guerrero. Following these statements, President Petro took to social media to denounce Angie Rodríguez, calling her a manipulator who uses public office for personal gain. He revealed that she was on medical leave due to a mental health condition, claiming she was a psychiatric patient and, as such, dismissing her testimony and ordering her dismissal.
