Monochromatic Pearl Pour Masterpiece: Stunning Purple Cells!
Hi everyone! I am over the moon to be included in the Under 1,000 Subscriber Collaboration this month. A huge thank you to Michelle from Royal River Art for organizing this and challenging us with a monochromatic palette! Follow along on our premiere train: • 1k Below March 26 2026 For this challenge, I decided to tackle a pearl pour—which hasn't always been my strong point—using only Dioxazine Purple, black, and white. I didn't use any special pearl mixes or satin enamels to get these results. Instead, I focused on the density of my mixtures and the thinness of my paints (consistency of skim milk!) to let those pearls develop naturally. I am so excited about how these cells turned out, especially the way the colors play together and the sparkle from the TLP pigments. I'm not usually a "purple girl," but this rich, bold finish has totally won me over! Materials Used: Base Color: Dioxazine Purple (Liquitex Basics) Whites: Titanium White (Liquitex Basics) and Soft Body White (Artist’s Loft) Pigments: This Little Piggy (TLP) in Constellation mixed with Metallic White Pouring Medium: Mina’s Recipe (25% Golden Heavy Gel Gloss / 75% US Floetrol) Binders: Nova 233 My Mixing Recipes: Pouring Medium: 25% Golden Heavy Gel Gloss, 75% US Floetrol. Tube Paints: Mixed 1 part paint to 2 parts pouring medium. Thinning (Dioxazine Purple): Thinned with a mixture of 2 parts Golden Heavy Gel Gloss, 1 part Liquitex Gloss Medium, and 9 parts water. This creates a denser mixture that helps the color sink and create those beautiful pearls! Thinning (All other colors): Thinned with just water to a very thin, skim-milk consistency. TLP Pigments: Wet with Nova 233 binder, then added pouring medium and water until extremely thin. Let's Connect!
