Must Watch: Stardust

Stardust should have been a much bigger movie. This 2007 fantasy adventure has everything: romance, sword fights, evil witches, fallen stars, air pirates, royal succession drama, great side characters, and one of the most absurdly stacked casts of its era. Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Mark Strong, Henry Cavill, Peter O’Toole, Ian McKellen, Ricky Gervais — somehow all in the same movie. And yet, a lot of people missed it. In this video, I make the case for why Stardust is one of the best modern fairy tales ever put on screen, why it works better than the Neil Gaiman book, why Matthew Vaughn’s direction gives the world so much color and personality, and why the movie feels like a new generation’s Princess Bride. It’s funny, romantic, magical, surprisingly well-written, packed with memorable side characters, and exactly the kind of mid-budget fantasy adventure Hollywood barely makes anymore. Watch Stardust. Seriously.
