We’re Helen and Andy, and we’re on our epic French road trip! As early retirees traveling full-time in our campervan, this is the next stop in a brand-new series as we embark on a massive loop around the country. Our journey begins in the historic landscapes of Normandy and will take us south into the heart of the Dordogne, across to the fairy-tale villages of Alsace, and finally north through the moving sites of Verdun and the Somme. This episode brings us to the stunning town of Brantôme, often referred to as the Venice of the Perigord. Arriving here is like stepping into a postcard; the town is built on an island surrounded by the Dronne river, and the sight of the Benedictine Abbey built directly into the limestone cliffs is truly breathtaking. Traveling in the van allows us the freedom to soak in the atmosphere of these iconic locations at our own pace. We spent our time exploring the narrow streets, crossing the beautiful stone bridges, and admiring the unique architecture that makes this one of the most beautiful villages in the region.
