The Gnostic religion is a set of ideas that emerged in the ancient Mediterranean world around the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The Gnostics believed that the universe is dual in nature and that within this duality we find ourselves as human beings, who must remember our divine essence. The knowledge of this essence immanent within us is "gnosis," from the Greek word "knowledge." In this video, we explain the foundations of Gnostic beliefs, discuss the most important Gnostic texts, the origin of these beliefs, and also discuss bibliographic sources that you may find of great interest. The history of so-called Gnosticism is very interesting and worthy of study and learning. Gnosticism relates to the ideas of early Christianity along with Platonic ideas and was very popular in countries of the Near East, including our beloved Egypt, where one of the main branches of Gnostic ideas originated.
