The Gnostic religion is a set of ideas that were born in the ancient Mediterranean world back in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The Gnostics believed that the universe is of a dual nature and that within that duality we find ourselves as human beings, who must remember our divine essence. The knowledge of that essence immanent to us is "gnosis", from the Greek "knowledge". In this video we explain the foundations of Gnostic beliefs, we talk about the most important Gnostic texts, the origin of these beliefs and we also talk about bibliographical sources that may be of great interest to you. The history of so-called Gnosticism is very interesting and worthy of study and learning. Gnosticism has to do with the ideas of early Christianity along with Platonic ideas and was very popular in countries of the Near East including our beloved Egypt where one of the main branches of Gnostic ideas was given.
