I just unboxed the Snowsky GIGAS 1. It’s part of FiiO’s new three-model GIGAS lineup. The GIGAS 2 is a portable battery-powered headphone amp with a removable battery, while the GIGAS 3 shares a similar desktop form factor but adds a built-in DAC. The GIGAS 1 keeps things simple. It’s a pure headphone amplifier built around a discrete Class AB architecture. What really caught my attention is the rated 4,500mW balanced output with a low-impedance, high-current design. On paper, it looks like it should have no problem driving any planar headphones and even those stubborn IEMs that love extra power. The crazy part is the price. At around $50 USD, this little giant could really shake up the budget amp market. Fittingly, “GIGAS” is the Greek word for giant.
