Naprawiam najnudniejszego Maca z lat 90. (Macintosh Classic)
On the surface, it's the most boring and technologically outdated computer Apple released in 1990. A processor from 1984, a technological relic in the era of the upcoming 486 PCs, and a mere 1 megabyte of memory in the base version without a hard drive were a budget joke. But I promise you, the story of this particular unit is anything but boring! This Macintosh Classic arrived from the UK after a rough patch, held together with crude black electrical tape, stripped of its hard drive and peripherals. I was greeted by thick vertical bars (jailbars) on the screen, and on the motherboard... a corrosive swamp of leaking capacitors. In this episode, we tackle a full resuscitation. We peel off the tape, use a workshop "plasma blaster" to safely discharge the CRT tube, clean the board, and solder in new tantalum capacitors. And if that wasn't enough, we're replacing the missing 30-year-old drive with a modern BlueSCSI design, which we soldered together ourselves from scratch. See how this boring, budget-friendly king of the '90s is coming back to life and why its design (Espresso) is still impressive! A huge thank you to Mariusz and Mateusz from the UK for helping us transport the patient! 🍻 Let us know in the comments whether you think the Classic is truly the most boring Mac ever, or an icon that still holds up today!
